MOSSBAUER STUDY OF THE NIFE2O4 PRECIPITATION PROCESS FROM A SILICATE GLASS

The NiFe//2O//4 precipitation process from the silicate glass of 50 SiO//2-30Na//2O-10NiO-10Fe//2O//3 composition was studied by means of the Moessbauer effect. Both the isomer shift and quadrupole splitting parameters are shown to decrease in the NiFe//2O//4 precipitation process. These decreases are interpreted on the basis of decrease in Fe**3** plus -O**2** minus distance and distortion of Fe**3** plus ion sites, respectively. The precipitated NiFe//2O//4 particles of 160 A show a stable ferrimagnetic behavior at 300 K, while those of 128 A exhibited superparamagnetism.
