STUDIES OF THE COGNITIVE REPRESENTATION OF SPATIAL RELATIONS .2. FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT

Tested the ability of 10 graduate students to recall the locations of buildings in a familiar campus setting, using pairwise distance judgments and direct mapping locations on a cathode ray tube terminal. Results suggest that either pairwise judgments or direct mapping yield accurate representations of spatial relations in a familiar environment, but that Ss favor the direct map.
