ELECTRONIC AND MAGNETIC-STRUCTURE OF EPITAXIAL FE AND CO MONOLAYERS ON AU(001) BY SPIN-POLARIZED PHOTOELECTRON-SPECTROSCOPY

摘要
Several theoretical predictions on the electronic and magnetic properties of two-dimensional 3d transition metal systems await experimental verfication. We show that two-dimensional Fe- and Comonolayer films can be grown epitaxially on a Au(001) substrate. These overlayers order ferromagnetically with remanent in-plane magnetization. For the first time we determine the spin-dependent electronic structure of these two-dimensional ferromagnets by means of spin-, angle- and energy resolved photoemission. Band dispersions along high symmetry directions of the surface Brillouin zone are found to be in very good agreement with recent self-consistent calculations. The development of the threedimensional electronic structure, for films thicker than 4 ML, has been studied in detail. © 1990.
