摘要
The formation of concentration gradients in vertical columns of supersaturated binary solutions is investigated theoretically for the case when the only driving force is time-independent gravity. The linear Fokker-Planck formalism is used in order to obtain estimations of the sedimentation time. It is shown that for aqueous supersaturated solutions the times obtained theoretically are much greater than the times observed experimentally. Thus, it is shown that the gravitational field is not responsible for the rapid formation of the concentration gradient but maintains the gradient after it has formed.
