NOTE ON NORMAL COLD-CATHODE GLOW-DISCHARGES

Earlier surveys of the properties of normal glow discharges on cold cathodes are updated in the light of later investigations. Some details of the axial structure and of the relation of normal discharges to other discharges are still uncertain. The most obviously outstanding problem remains that of the exact reason for the lateral stability of the core of a normal discharge on an incompletely covered cathode. New experiments are proposed which might assist in understanding this.
