STRATEGIC ADAPTATION TO EXTENDED RIVALRY - EFFECTS ON ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE

摘要
We propose and test a path-analytic model relating extended rivalry to organizational strategies and subsequent performance outcomes. The results provide support for the theorized role of strategy in partially mediating the effects of the environment on organizational performance. The evidence suggests that, although firms can proactively respond to some forms of extended rivalry via the implementation of appropriate strategies, other conditions seem to be relatively intractable. Managerial insights are provided concerning the achievement qi competitive advantage over extended rivals via the utilization of particular generic strategies.
