CHARACTERIZATION OF A LARGE SINGLET-TRIPLET COUPLING IN THE (A)OVER-TILDE STATE OF THE ACETYLENE MOLECULE

We present limited results concerning the largest anticrossing (almost-equal-to 0.5 T, fwhm ) observed in the series of anticrossing spectra A 1A(u) v3', =0-3, K'=N'=I'=0 in the gaseous acetylene molecule (C2H2). By analyzing the fluorescence line positions around 7.15 T, we deduce the anticrossing parameters in a two-level model. The Lande g factor shows this anticrossing results from a large coupling of a S1 (A) level with a zeroth-order triplet level. This agrees well with our previous hypothesis of the existence of a triplet linear isomerization barrier in the vicinity of the energy range studied (almost-equal-to 45500 cm-1).
