NONLINEAR-WAVE COMPETITION AND ANISOTROPIC SPECTRA OF SPATIOTEMPORAL CHAOS OF FARADAY RIPPLES

摘要
The spatio-temporal disorder on the background capillary ripples excited parametrically by a homogeneous field is investigated in fluids with various viscosities. Analysis of modulation wave characteristics in the spectra and spatio-temporal description has shown that the modulation wave dynamics is determined, to a significant degree, by nonlinear wave damping which, in turn, depends on viscous dissipation. At equal supercriticalities, the spatio- temporal disorder is less developed (and the spatial spectrum is more localized) in a fluid with higher viscosity. © 1990 IOP Publishing Ltd.
