A statistical model of high-energy scattering processes is developed which incorporates assumed analyticity properties. The aim is to provide a framework for the description and interpretation of large angle scattering data. A physical basis for the model is provided by the assumption that the scattering is produced by exchange of massive resonant states, which are very dense and very narrow, and extend to arbitrarily high energies in the crossed channels. The model is in qualitative agreement with present data, but more data, especially for other reactions and at higher energies, is required for the model to lead to new results or to undergo a stringent test. © 1969.
