ROLE OF ELEMENTARY SULPHUR AND ERYTHROCYTE GLUTATHIONE IN FORMATION OF SULPHAEMOGLOBIN

摘要
The formation of sulphaemoglobin was observed during incubation of an elementary sulphur suspension with whole blood haemolysate containing reduced glutathione. It was demonstrated that sulphaemoglobin is formed in the reaction of oxyhaemoglobin with hydrogen sulphide produced from the elementary sulphur due to the reduction by GSH. Blocking the BSH group of glutathione with N-ethylmaleimide or removal of GSH by dialysis prevented the formation of sulphaemoglobin in the presence of elementary sulphur. © 1968.
