PUDENDAL NEURECTOMY IN MANAGEMENT OF NEUROGENIC BLADDER IN MYELOMENINGOCELE

摘要：

Failure of relaxation of the external urethral sphincter is a common cause of bladder decompensation in children suffering from myelomeningoceles. In 10 out of 12 such patients, bilateral pudendal neurectomy was successful in relieving bladder outflow obstruction. The importance of careful selection for operation and of meticulous technique is emphasized. Full assessment of bladder function within 3 months of birth is recommended in all infants with myelomeningoceles so that bladder balance can be restored before upper urinary tract damage occurs.
