摘要
The effect of the electrical discharge on the molecular composition of a flowing carbon dioxide gas laser is examined. The carbon dioxide dissociates, the amount of dissociation depending on the pressure, discharge current, gas flow rate and the addition of nitrogen and helium; the degree of dissociation may reach 85%. Such dissociation reduces the laser power output, but can be controlled by the addition of about 0·2 torr water vapour.
