MOSSBAUER STUDIES OF MAGNETIC-ANISOTROPY IN PT/FE1-XCOX MULTILAYERS

Pt(20 angstrom)/Fe1-xCox(d) multilayers were prepared by UHV evaporation for d = 2 angstrom (x = 0), 5 angstrom (x = 0 to 0.99) and 10 angstrom (x = 0.3). They have been studied by Mossbauer spectroscopy for temperatures between T = 4.2 to 295 K. Perpendicular magnetic anisotropy was found to increase for increasing x and decreasing T. The Fe-57 hyperfine field in these thin films shows a strong deviation from bulk behaviour.
