EFFECT OF CYCLOPHOSPHAMIDE (ENDOXAN) ON ACUTE AND CHRONIC INFLAMMATION IN GUINEA PIG

The effect of cyclophosphamide (Endoxan®) on inflammation was investigated in 58 guinea pigs. The acute inflammation was produced by formalin injections into the paws and edema was measured electroplethysmographically. The results show no effects of Endoxan on the acute phase of inflammation, while chronic granulomatous inflammation as produced by foreign body granuloma was significantly inhibited by cyclophosphamide. The development of acute inflammation proceeded rhythmically, which could be separated statistically as a biological phenomenon from recording errors. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
