摘要
I analyze a set of life history models that differ in the timing and frequency of reproduction. They predict that mast fruiting should be restricted to populations with relatively high adult survivorship and low population growth rate. Foresters' data on a variety of tree species provide indirect support for these predictions. The models also permit calculation of the occasional fecundity necessary to match a given annual fecundity, but insufficient data exist to test this prediction. © 1979.
