The past year has seen a landmark in the developing relationship between Helicobacter pylori and gastric neoplasia, namely the recognition by the International Agency for Research on Cancer that this organism is a carcinogen. The implications of this conclusion for public health, particularly in the developing world, are potentially enormous.
