The infrared stretching frequencies of Pu14N and Pu 15N in solid Ar at 20 K have been measured as 855.73 and 828.62±0.05 cm-1, respectively. The calculated harmonic frequency ωe is 861.9±1.6 cm-1 and the first anharmonic correction ωexe is 3.1±0.8 cm -1. The frequencies of the ν3 stretching modes of Pu14N2, Pu14N15N, and Pu 15N2 were measured (±0.05 cm-1) as 1029.74, 1017.73, and 998.87, respectively. The plutonium dinitride molecule is linear. © 1978 American Institute of Physics.
