THE DEPENDENCE OF THE SUPERCONDUCTING TRANSITION-TEMPERATURE OF SINGLE-CRYSTALLINE YBA2CU3O7-DELTA ON HYDROSTATIC-PRESSURE TO 13-GPA

The pressure dependence of the AC susceptibility of a YBa2Cu3O7-delta single crystal has been measured to 13 GPa using a diamond-anvil cell loaded with liquid helium. The superconducting transition temperature T(c) initially increases with hydrostatic pressure at the rate + (0.65 +/- 0.15) K/GPa but then passes through a maximum at approximately 4 GPa. This result is believed to be quite general and to reflect to dependence of T(c) on the planar hole carrier density which increases monotonically under pressure.
