OPTIMAL WAVELET ANALYSIS AND ITS APPLICATION TO 2-DIMENSIONAL TURBULENCE

摘要
In this paper we introduce an "optimal" wavelet transform aimed to reduce the statistical errors in estimating local scaling laws of self-similar stochastic processes. As a quantitative test for the technique the Brownian motion analysis is considered. Next we apply our approach to the numerical simulation of a two-dimensional decaying turbulent flow. Preliminary results support the idea that many different scaling behaviours are present in the vorticity field.
