摘要
The response of a spherical dielectric particle, with a diameter much larger than the double layer thickness, to a transient electric field is determined analytically. Inertial effects within the thin double layer are neglected as are any changes in the double layer structure. The particular case of electrophoretic motion in response to a step application of an electric field is considered in detail. The relaxation time proves to be negligible in most cases, verifying that the particle velocity will closely follow Smoluchowski's equation with the instantaneous electric field. © 1969.
