Turnover studies with iodine-labelled proteins showed that monomer and dimer albumin, in contrast to transferrin and γglobulin, are retained extra-vascularly during the early postoperative period. In agreement with this the content of radio-activity originating in albumin was found to be highly elevated in the extravascular space in wound tissue, being about 10 times the value for normal tissues, whereas the content of radio-activity originating in transferrin and γglobulin was only insignificantly elevated. © 1969 Informa UK Ltd All rights reserved: reproduction in whole or part not permitted.
