TRIPLING OF THE SHORT AXIS IN THE HOLLANDITE STRUCTURE

Two hollandites, the tetragonal Ba.65Ru2.7Cr1.3O8 and the monoclinic Ba.7Sn2.6Cr1.4O8 have been studied by means of X-ray and electron diffraction. A tripling of the short axis has always been found for the first and only rarely for the second. The suggested superstructure, based on a comparison of calculated and observed electron diffraction intensities, indicates an ordering of the large Ba atoms as well as an ordering of the octahedrally coordinated metal atoms. © 1979.
