ELASTIC-SCATTERING OF LI-7 ON AL, SI AND TI BELOW 12 MEV AT 170-DEGREES

Elastic scattering cross sections of Li-7 ions from natural aluminum, silicon and titanium have been measured in the energy range 3.5-11.5 MeV at a laboratory scattering angle of 170-degrees. Below 5.4, 5.6 and 7.5 MeV, respectively, Rutherford scattering was observed. Higher energies produced a trend of reduced cross sections relative to Rutherford scattering. The threshold energy of deviations from Rutherford scattering is compared with a recent analytical model based on nuclear perturbation calculations. Reasonable agreement, with somewhat larger deviations than predicted, is observed.
