POLARIZATION STUDIES OF COMET OKAZAKI-LEVY-RUDENKO

摘要
Observations of comet Okazaki-Levy-Rudenko (1989r) during December show two unusual features. The first is a wedge-shaped coma which is seen to persist over several days. The results of a Haser model show that the shape can be explained by having an anisotropic source for the molecules making up the coma. The second notable feature is an antisolar jet seen on 1989 December 5. This shows up most clearly in the red polarization image, and the high level of polarization in this jet implies that it is made predominantly of dust particles.
