RESONANT SCATTERING OF SLOW-ELECTRONS IN MOLECULAR-SOLIDS - SUPPRESSION OF THE ELASTIC BEAM

摘要
We discuss the effect of the surrounding matrix on the resonant scattering of an electron from a molecule imbedded in a solid. Under the conditions outlined, coupling between the resonantly trapped electrons and acoustical phonons leads to a suppression of the elastic component of the scattered beam. When this happens, a multiphonon loss structure occurs, whose shape and temperature dependence is given for the model explored in the present paper. We discuss the recent experimental studies of slow-electron scattering from solid N2 films reported by Sanche and collaborators, with these results in hand.
