CARCINOMA OF ESOPHAGUS AT SITE OF LYE STRICTURE

A case is presented of carcinoma of the esophagus which developed in the site of chronic stricture caused by ingestion of lye twenty-two years previously. Inability to dilate the chronic stricture, which had been successfully dilated in the past, and radiographic evidence of increase in the degree of stenosis, led to early diagnosis. Esophagectomy was performed while the carcinoma was still confined to the area of the stricture. Twenty-two months after resection, the patient has no evidence of recurrence and is thought to have an excellent chance for complete cure. © 1969.
