摘要
Lipophosphoglycan (LPG), the major cell-surface glycoconjugate of Leishmania promastigotes, is an essential virulence determinant. One feature of LPG resides in its strong inhibitory effect on the activity of purified protein kinase C (PKC). In this article, Albert Descoteaux and Salvatore Turco briefly review the evidence that LPG effectively inhibits PKC activity in the macrophage, and discuss the implication of such inhibition on Leishmania intramacrophage survival.
