摘要
Coordinate measuring machines are used to gather data points from a specific object. A mass of geometric boundary data points has to be collected in order to estimate desired geometric parameters of part features. This paper presents a Monte Carlo modelling, simulation, and heuristic results of the minimum sufficient data set to determine the accuracy of the circularity (roundness) tolerance measurement. An image processing procedure is incorporated in the research to approximate the true envelope of the circular feature from a two-dimensional image scan. The minimum sufficient data set is determined by a Monte Carlo simulation procedure based on relative errors of the calculated circular profiles. Results are presented to establish the criterion of selecting sampling data points, and to study the probabilistic nature of the measurement procedures.
