Flowslides have been induced in small, instrumented coking coal stockpiles by slowly raising the water table. These strongly resembled field cases, showing sudden collapse, rapid fluid-like motion and very flat final slopes. High-speed measurements showed that excess pore pressures were generated during rather than before movement, and liquefaction was therefore a result of shear failure rather than the cause. -from Author
