摘要：
A simple method of calculation of the guided modes of optical rib waveguides is developed and presented. The method is based on a scalar variational principle for the evaluation of the propagation constants and a vector perturbation analysis for the polarization correction. It can be readily implemented on a personal computer to produce the propagation constants and the field patterns of the modes for optical rib waveguides. Comparison with other numerical methods shows very good agreement.
