A simple yield condition for the elastic-plastic medium is developed which admits a stress-strain-increment relation including the observed second-order extension associated with pure torsion and the resulting dissimilarity between the Mohr circles of stress and strain-increments. This yield condition is then used as the loading function of a strain-hardening medium in conjunction with a rule of kinematic hardening. The associated relation between the Lode parameters is determined and discussed in the light of the existing experimental results. © 1969 Springer-Verlag.
