摘要
Samples of unstabilized PVC of 60 +/- 10-mu-m thickness and variable orientation ratio (determined by infrared dichroism) were obtained by stretching solvent cast films at 90-degrees-C. They were exposed to gamma-radiation (dose rate 0.44 Gy s 1) in air, to doses ranging from 0 to 76 kGy. Their radiochemical ageing was studied by steric exclusion chromatography and infrared spectrophotometry (carbonyl determination). It appeared that orientation does not significantly influence the chain scission process. On the contrary, it plays a considerable accelerating role on carbonyl growth. These results are tentatively interpreted in terms of radical chain oxidation mechanisms. Orientation would favour the build-up of chain conformations in which hydrogen abstraction from methylene groups would be especially easy.
