The present study includes 43 patients with severe anatomic deficiencies of urethral sphincter function, many additionally complicated by anatomic abnormalities of the urethra, urinary tract pathology, and bladder dysfunction, who following careful assessment have been managed surgically by a combined vaginal-retropubic procedure permitting plication of the bladder neck and introduction of a fascia lata sling. A postoperative assessment was carried out in respect to the objective and subjective results of this procedure. A resolution of demonstrable incontinence occurred in 41 of the 43 patients. Subjective improvement in respect to incontinence follows resolution of the objective problem. © 1969.
