EQUILIBRIUM VACANCY CONCENTRATION MEASUREMENTS ON TIN SINGLE-CRYSTALS

摘要
Simultaneous length and lattice parameter change measurements are performed on tetragonal tin single crystals in a‐ and c‐direction from room temperature to melting temperature. Length and lattice parameter change measurements agree within experimental error for all temperatures. From this it can be concluded that the maximum vacancy concentration is less than 3 × 10−5, which is the maximum experimental uncertainty. Using the energy of formation E 1f = 0.50 eV from other experiments an upper limit for the entropy of formation of s/k = 1.1 is calculated. Copyright © 1979 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA
