ACTION OF VARIOUS FLAME-RETARDANT COMBINATIONS ON THE FLAMMABILITY OF POLYPROPYLENE

摘要
The flammability and smoke generated by burning of polypropylene is discussed. Alicylic chlorine- and bromine-containing compounds, an aliphatic-aromatic bromine compound, bicyclic thionophosphorinane, and a mixture of ammonium polyphosphate and nitrogen-containing heterocyclic polymers were used as flame retardants (FR). Synergistic and anatagonistic effects were observed by using Sb2O3, organotin compounds, zinc borate, talc and ferrocene together with the FR. Flammability was measured by the oxygen index test method (OI) simultaneously with the determination of smoke density. Mass losses caused by burning were also measured. Thermal degradation was studied by thermogravimetry (TG) and derivative thermogravimetry (DTG).
