NEUTRON INELASTIC-SCATTERING FROM SUPERFLUID HE-4 BEYOND THE ROTON MINIMUM

摘要
The dynamic structure factor S(Q, E) for superfluid He-4 at saturated vapor pressure and T = 1.3 K has been measured by neutron inelastic scattering for wave vectors between 1.9 and 4.0 angstrom-1. The observed spectra clearly show how weight is transferred from the one-phonon excitation to the multiphonon spectrum, which gradually transforms into a single peak centered slightly below the recoil energy.
