THE TRAJECTORIES OF COSMIC-RAYS AT THE HIGHEST ENERGIES .1. CALCULATIONS FOR PARTICLES ORIGINATING IN THE GALACTIC PLANE

Numerical calculations of the trajectories of cosmic ray protons in the energy range 2 x 10(17)-8 x 10(18) eV have been performed using up-to-date models of the Galactic magnetic field and a source model in which particles originate from many sources distributed uniformly in the 'thin' Galactic Disk. The results show two distinctive features in the particle arrival directions: a north-south asymmetry at low energies and a sharp Galactic Plane enhancement above 10(18) eV. The sensitivity of the predicted anisotropies to the parameters of the magnetic field model is examined.
