DWBA analyses are given of the 10B(14N, 13N)11B and 40Ca(14N, 13N)41Ca reactions, which both involve transitions to final ground state configurations at energies considerably below the Coulomb barrier. The experiments at the lower incident energies are well-fitted, and the spectroscopic factors that are derived for the neutron states in 41Ca and 11B are consistent with those deduced from (d, p) stripping studies. A procedure is presented for handling the nuclear distortion effects at higher energies without the need for introduce optical models to account for the non-Coulomb interactions between the heavy ions and the target nuclei. The reliability of information derived from neutron-transfer experiments involving heavy ions is compared with that derived from the more conventional deutron-stripping experiments. © 1968.
