Processing of Ras-Shait chromite deposits is attained through leaching of chromite which commercial sulphuric acid using a ball mill type autoclave. This process yields chromium sulphate which may be used in the chemical industry or used to produce chromium metal. An empirical formula was obtained to determine the dependence of the rate of chromium dissolution upon temperature, grain size of chromite, sulphuric acid concentration and time of leaching. The effects of temperature and acid concentration upon the dissolution of iron, aluminium and magnesium have been determined.
