Cathode mixtures consisting of MnO//2 and C//2F and/or CF//x (called the K-cathode) were examined in a coin type lithium cell without using any carbon in the cathode. The discharge behavior of each component (MnO//2, C//2F, or CF//x), the effect of the cathode composition on cell impedance, the effect of the predischarge conditions on cell voltage, and the difference between C//2F and CF//x for the K-cathode were investigated. It was found that a K-cathode containing 10-20% C//2F or CF//x not only discharges successfully but also provides a larger capacity than does MnO//2 or CF//x alone.
