摘要
The activity of a radioactive source is estimated in terms of the ratio of the number of recorded counts to the length of recording time, and the detection efficieH of the counter. If background radiation is appreciable, the count rate with the source in position must be corrected for the count rate due to background. The source and background are measured for either (a) a fixed length of time or (b) a fixed number of counts. Simple charts are presented which enable the investigator to determine the measuring time, or number of counts, required to control the precision of the corrected source count rate when (i) equal time is allocated to source and to background, (ii) equal number of counts are allocated to source and to background, and (iii) time is allocated optimally to the background and to K different sources. © 1969.
