FACTORS DETERMINING FLUX AND REJECTION OF ULTRAFILTRATION MEMBRANES

摘要
The performance of an ultrafilter is dependent on the properties of the membrane (pore size, porosity), interaction between the membrane and the solute being ultrafiltered, and the concentration of solute at the membrane surface. The influence of each of these factors is reviewed. It is shown that it is incorrect to treat the membrane as a passive entity. Control of the extent of solute absorption and of the hydrodynamic conditions in the ultrafiltration channel offer possibilities of much improved module performance. © 1990.
