HEXAGONAL BEAM FILAMENTATION IN A LIQUID-CRYSTAL FILM WITH SINGLE FEEDBACK MIRROR

摘要
We investigated experimentally the spontaneous formation of regular patterns of filaments in a laser beam traversing a thin liquid crystal film placed in front of a single mirror. Our observations strongly support a simple model for pattern formation based on the Talbot effect. In spite of its simplicity, it predicts very well the change of the observed hexagon lattice constant as the mirror is moved, and that hexagon formation could occur also when the minor is posed at a 'negative' distance from the cell. We report experimental observation of hexagon formation, for both positive and negative distance.
