INHIBITION OF KREBS CYCLE BY GLYOXYLIC ACID

摘要
Evidence is presented that glyoxylic acid inhibits the Krebs cycle activity of pea mitochondria. The extent and nature of the inhibition is compared with the inhibition produced by 4-hydroxy-2-oxoglutarate. It is argued that inhibition by glyoxylate is direct and does not require prior condensation with oxaloacetate or pyruvate. The loci of inhibition by glyoxylate have been identified as pyruvic oxidase and tentatively as α-oxoglutaric oxidase and succinic oxidase. The physiological significance of these results is briefly discussed. © 1970.
