After an intense red bleach to one eye, the wavelengths necessary to produce the best subjective yellow in the contralateral eye are displaced toward the greens for a period of several minutes (De Valois and Walraven, 1967). If pressure is applied to the bleached eye at the termination of the bleaching light, such that pressure blindness occurs, no displacement of wavelength settings is produced. The results show that the interocular hue effect depends on a continuing signal from the bleached retina. © 1969.
