BISTABILITY AND HYSTERESIS PHENOMENA IN AN OPTICAL PARAMETRIC OSCILLATOR

The optical parametric oscillator involving the analogue of the inverse Čerenkov effect is considered for the case when the pumping (with a frequency ωp) consists of two plane waves incident at two different angles onto an optical waveguide (terminated by mirrors). Here, a bistability of the oscillator output emission (with frequencies ωs, ωv satisfying the relation ωs + ωr = ωp) and hysteresis phenomena caused by the bistability are shown to be realized. Also, bistability and hysteresis phenomena are shown to appear in the weaves with the frequency ωp reflected from (transmitted through) the waveguide layer, and in the waves with new frequencies 2ωs, 2ωr which are due to the transformation of the pumping in the waveguide layer.
