RELIABILITY OF WELDS AND BRAZED JOINTS IN BLANKETS AND ITS INFLUENCE ON AVAILABILITY

摘要
Reliability analyses of blanket design concepts for next step machines are reviewed. The plant availability will be affected by the down time required for blanket segment replacements. About two thirds of the blanket failure rate result from weld failures. Hence, the most effective measures for improvement are to reduce the number and length of outage-relevant welds and to design the unavoidable welds such that the plant operation can be continued for some time in spite of weld failures. The effectiveness of these measures is demonstrated by an example.
