摘要
Can the 'recruitment problem' (i.e., what controls the mean and variance of year class success?) ever be solved even for a single group of fishes? Fishery biologists from around the world focused intensely on the issue with regard to the flatfishes. Although a consensus was not attained, and few of the competing hypotheses were eliminated, several promising new ideas on how to proceed won support.
