The chemical characterization of the test article used in toxicological studies of gum tragacanth

摘要
The sample of commercial gum tragacanth used as the 'test article' in recent toxicological studies has been characterized chemically. Comparative analytical data for seven Iranian samples and five Turkish commercial samples indicate that the test article selected was a sample of fair average quality and that it can be regarded as representative of food-grade commercial gum tragacanth, which is a very variable commodity by virtue of the wide range of Asiatic Astragalus species currently accepted as its legitimate botanical source by all regulatory authorities.
