摘要
In order to develop a suitable non-wetting container for growing lithium and barium borate, the wettability of molten borates with various containers was evaluated using the sessile drop technique. Among various container materials, graphite is demonstrated to be a non-wetting container for Li2B4O7, LiBO2 and BaB2O4 melts. The contact angles of molten LiBO2, L2B4O7 and BaB2O4 droplets with graphite were 86-degrees, 89-degrees and 80-degrees, respectively. By using a non-wetting graphite container, Li2B4O7 crystals have been successfully grown by horizontal and vertical Bridgman techniques under Ar atmosphere. The grown crystals were easily removed from the graphite container because of the non-wetting nature of graphite.
